So, there I was, chatting with Dustin Knutson from Boyd’s Hardwood Gun Stocks—you know, the guy who owns it. He hits me with, “Andy, where can I bag a humongous kudu? I’m talkin’ 60-inch kudu big!” Now, I’m thinkin’, 60 inches is like the holy grail of kudu, but if you’re game to wait it out, it could happen. “Let’s try Namibia!” I tell him.
Fast forward and bam! We’re in Namibia, and it’s kudu city, let me tell you. We spent five days hunting and had to say “no thanks” to hundreds of kudu bulls! If you want Mr. Massive Kudu, saying “no” is the name of the game, even when they’re huge.
On the fifth and final day of this short safari, we strike gold—a breathtaking kudu, and boy, what a find! We had a blast, and while Dustin was on his quest for the ultimate kudu, we didn’t shy away from other adventures. Dustin’s wife, Amanda, shot a huge oryx—nearly 40 inches! Not to mention, Dustin also snagged a springbuck and a free-range mountain zebra—Namibian classics!
In the end, Dustin’s kudu measured 57 inches—just shy of that magical 60, but in the wilds of Namibia, 57 will do just fine! As for Boyd’s Hardwood Gun Stocks, they’re just as captivating. And hey, 57 inches is good enough for any day of the week, right?
