Ah, the call of the wild! The Piper Rifles group had been dreaming about this very adventure for over two years. So you can imagine the thrill when their boots finally hit the tarmac at Harare International Airport, all set for a charter flight to the legendary Save Valley. The mission? One buffalo per brother. And with four of them, we had ten days to make it big.
Now picture this: a bunch of safari newbies stepping into the majestic Save Valley, eyes popping at every corner. These fellas were like kids in a candy store, except the candy here was the beautiful Dagga boys that were spotted, many of which were passed up. They wanted trophies, not sugar rushes!
The boys really wanted to hunt hard for their first trophy, and were looking for something special.
Matt, bless his crooked knee, wasn’t as picky as his siblings. And guess what? He was quick to nab his Cape Buffalo dream trophy. Thanks to some top-notch guiding by Rex Hoets, two shots with a .375, made by his brother Benjamin, and using Swift A Frame bullets, and voila! A cape buffalo down and one very emotional Matt. Pass the tissues, please!
Not long after, Mark snagged his bull – an old Dagga boy past breeding age, who somehow forgot to ditch the herd of 200 buffalo. Guess he didn’t get the memo. But hey, what a sight for Mark to score his trophy amidst such grandeur.
Unfortunately, lady luck skipped Paul and Benjamin. Paul managed to wound a magnificent, wide old buffalo – a beast that ghosted us despite days of tracking. And Benjamin? Well, he shot and wounded, a lesson learned the hard way.
Ben’s luck turned when he got the chance to hunt an elephant bull suffering from a poacher’s snare. A big heart and a big reward – an elephant free of charge! Now that’s a story for the grandkids.
But the adventure didn’t end there. All the brothers rounded off their trip with fine warthogs and impala. Oh, and their friend, Mr. Richard? He went on a plains game spree, bagging a majestic kudu bull, a zebra, an impala ram, and a warthog. Jackpot!
We can barely wait to see these brothers and their trusty Piper Rifles again in 2028. Until then, happy hunting and we’ll keep the stories coming.
